Beginning May 1, 2025, Missouri employers are required to offer “Earned Paid Sick Time” (EPST) to eligible employees.
Under the new law, employees will accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. However, certain employers are exempted from this new law. That includes retail or service businesses with less than $500,000 in annual gross sales and public employers.
Written Notice Requirement
Employers must provide written notice to their employees by April 15th. The notice should include the following:
-
Employees accrue paid sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
-
Employers are prohibited from taking retaliatory action against employees who request or use paid sick leave.
-
Employees have the right to bring a civil action if paid sick leave is denied.
-
Contact information for the Department of Labor.
Missouri’s Department of Labor & Industrial Relations should have a model notice available for employer’s use soon. Additional details on roll-over policies and other specifics can be found on the Department’s website or by clicking this link: Missouri Paid Sick Time Benefits FAQs.
Stay compliant by notifying employees of this new law by April 15, 2025 and by ensuring your existing paid time off policies are updated well before the May 1, 2025 deadline.
